My name is Bo Yang. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Strategic Management at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California. I am on the 2023-24 job market.
My primary research interest is corporate nonmarket strategies concerning how firms create competitive advantages by engaging with the government, activists, and other stakeholders in the external institutional environment.
My research develops novel theories on several important topics including: (1) how firms choose appropriate political strategies in polarized environments; (2) how firms integrate political strategies with market strategies such as global sourcing and innovation; (3) how firms address growing stakeholder activism demanding corporate political responsibility (i.e., corporate political activities should be conducted in a socially responsible manner and aligned with democracy). I test the theories in contemporary salient events including the trade war and the Capitol Riot.
My goal is to inform how businesses can do well by responding to and actively engaging with the ever-changing sociopolitical environment.
